Strawberry Season In South Carolina

strawberry season

It’s strawberry season in South Carolina!

Spring has Sprung & Berries are Back! April’s warm temperatures mean one thing in South Carolina…it’s FINALLY strawberry season. From April to June you can visit berry farms, roadside stands and grocery stores for fresh strawberries by the bushel.

CNC loves strawberries for their culinary versatility and nutrient composition.

You can enjoy pickled green strawberries, strawberries as a salad topper, and strawberries in soups, salsas, smoothies, and desserts. Even their greens are edible!

Packed with nutrients, one serving or 8 medium sized strawberries contain 140% of the daily value for vitamin C, 8% of the daily value for folate, 12% of the daily value for fiber, 6% of the daily value for potassium, and only 7g sugar.

Additional benefits of strawberries include:

  • The American Diabetes Association identifies strawberries as one of the top 10 foods for a diabetic diet.
  • A 2013 study found that eating more than three servings of strawberries a week is associated with a lower risk of heart attacks in middle aged women.
  • The MIND diet for brain health encourages strawberry intake to prevent cognitive decline.
