Lifestyle Tips for Reducing Cancer Risk

october veggies
  • Avoid using tobacco: Smoking and chewing tobacco has been linked to a variety of cancers, including pancreatic, lungs, mouth, kidney, and others.  Even secondhand tobacco exposure can increase risk for cancer development.
  • Engage in Physical Activity & Maintain Weight: Incorporating 30 minutes of exercise within your daily routine can help you maintain your weight and reduce risk for several chronic diseases.
  • Use sun protection: This includes wearing a daily sunscreen and reapply as needed.  Wearing sunglasses, wide-brimmed hats, and clothing that covers exposed areas of skin can help protect your skin from harmful rays.  Avoiding tanning beds is another way to reduce risk of skin cancer.
  • Schedule routine exams & physicals: Regularly seeing your doctor and taking part in screenings can help catch cancers early if present.
